WARREN MACDONALD, Ph.D., CEng., CSci, FIPEM, FHEA

Warren is an orthopaedic bioengineer with extensive experience in clinical orthopaedics, research and industry, development and regulatory compliance. With particular interests in implant and instrumentation design, fracture fixation devices and strategies and how these influence bone response, Warren has combined research and practical engineering in the clinical setting: including maintaining a successful publication record.

Warren has worked in three major hospitals (Royal Perth Hospital, the Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre, Oxford, and King’s College Hospital London) and also worked in industry (with Johnson & Johnson Orthopaedics) and as a consultant bioengineer in orthopaedic engineering (for fourteen years). As a consequence, Warren has a good working knowledge of Quality systems and the regulatory framework for Medical Devices, which informs his leading of a Regulatory compliance module for the Imperial College MSc in Biomedical Engineering at South Kensington.

Warren says: “I am particularly interested in making a difference in how orthopaedics is understood and practised through implant, procedure and instrumentation innovation, and in delivering practical solutions to clinical problems or answering clinical questions.”
